It pulled together project partners Westpac, Hudson, The Salvation Army Employment Plus and BWA and was funded by the federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. Better Balance candidates graduating from the second pre-employment training program. Throughout the program, pre-employment training was offered to 60 job seekers over the age of 45 with the hope to place 75% of these in Contact Centre or Retail Banking positions either with Westpac or another employer in a similar role. As of February 20th, 18 candidates were gainfully employed with another 5 candidates pending a position opening up for them in the near future. This wasn't quite the success rate we had envisioned, however, there were some very happily employed job seekers as a result of the program. Westpac have been a very important partner and have an ongoing commitment to offering employment to older job seekers. |
They have committed a great deal of time,
effort and resources to supporting the program and achieving successful
employment outcomes and continue to work with BWA on successful age
management strategies for their business. The Salvation Army were also a committed project partner and provided the pre-employment training component of the project. Future initiatives with Westpac will be looking at developing even more effective pathways for older job seekers into employment. Wise Workforce Another project being conducted currently by BWA is the Wise Workforce project. At the heart of the Wise Workforce project, again funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, is an awareness raising campaign amongst small to medium sized enterprises in Melbourne's Inner East. Project activity commenced late in 2005 with a launch at Swinburne University's Faculty of Business and Enterprise. A business breakfast conducted through the City of Boroondara hosted attendees from a range of business sectors, including the automotive sector, the real estate sector, the financial services sector and the Manufacturing sector. Delegates discussed the impacts of an ageing workforce on small to medium-sized business in Australia and were given a call to arms to re-think the way they recruit and retain staff. Gill Walker, director of EverGreen, a marketing company focused on targeting the plus 50 audience attended the workshop and you can read more about her approach in this newsletter.
